Welcome to the American Peace Test Archive.

This archive will gather the memories and experience of the organizing to end the detonation of nuclear weapons in Nevada, and around the world.

If you were there, you are invited to gather your thoughts and photographs and add your experience to this archive.

An Ongoing Nuclear Threat

We may be facing the resumption of nuclear weapons testing. And if it resumes in Nevada, it will likely resume around the world.

The Nevada National Security Site, formerly the Nevada Test Site, continues nuclear weapons development through so-called “sub-critical” tests and maintains the ability to resume full-scale nuclear weapons testing within a 24 -36 month timeframe.

“Divider” – The Last US Nuclear Test

The last full-scale nuclear weapons test took place in Nevada on September 23, 1992. It was code-named “Divider.” There’s a bit of irony in its name: it divided the moment between US testing and its end.

Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference

From April 27 – May 22, 2026, the The 11th Review Conference of the Non-Proliferation Treaty will take place at the United Nations in New York City. The purpose of the NPT is not only to stop the spread of nuclear weapons, but also to provide a forum to discuss the complete abolition of all nuclear arsenals. More information can be found here: Reaching Critical Will. RCW is a project of WILPF, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.

The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty

In 1996, negotiations for the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty were completed. The US was the first to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty on September 24, 1996, but the US Senate has never ratified it. So while the US has honored the spirit of the treaty while awaiting its entry-into-force, a resumption of the full-scale testing could take place.

"Today, humanity is just one misunderstanding, one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation. We need the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as much as ever."
