Western Shoshone Tribal Chief Raymond Yowell attended many of the APT actions at the Test Site.

His message was always one of respect for our Mother Earth and adherence to the 1863 Treaty of Ruby Valley, between the Western Shoshone people and the government of the United States. This treaty recognizes the rights of the Western Shoshone and established the rights of people to “go, gather and come” across the land of New Sogobia, the Shoshone name of this area.

New Segobia, 60 million acres, encompasses most of the state of Nevada, and parts of California, Idaho and Utah.
