APHA Peace Caucus – Sept. 1986
The American Public Health Association held its annual convention in Las Vegas, NV in September 1996.
The peace caucus of the APHA organized a small group of doctors and nurses to go to the Nevada Test Site and cross the cattle guard entrance and get arrested.
The charges were later dismissed, which prompted the APHA Peace Caucus organizers to work with Freeze Movement staffers to organize the February 5, 1987 demonstration, and raise money to pay for buses so that people from around the country could come demonstrate against the continuing detonation of nuclear weapons at the Nevada Test Site.
