Stephanie Fraser was a staff member of APT from the summer of 1987 until 1991.

She did many different jobs during this time, including organizing the post card notifications to activists around the US when the Department of Energy conducted a test.

She managed the finances for the Reclaim the Test Site action, spending March 12, 1988 in an RV counting ones and fives that had been donated in a “pass the hat” during the large rally.

Stephanie gave talks about nuclear weapons testing and did media work.

After American Peace Test:

Stephanie went on, from 1992 – 1995, to be the Executive Director of the Greater San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility. During this time, she attended the 1995 Nuclear Non Proliferation Review and Extension conference, where over four weeks, progress was made to ensure that there would not be a spread of nuclear weapons to more countries.

As an independent activist, she spent the summer of 1996 monitoring and lobbying the delegates to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva who were in the final negotiations of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. The CTBT prohibits the detonation of nuclear weapons, and has been signed by 187 countries. However, due to the strict entry-into-force provisions, requiring the five nuclear weapons states to sign and ratify the CTBT.

In 1998, she worked with the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom in NYC, as staff with the NY Metro chapter, and with the International office near the United Nations. In 1999, she co-founded the Reaching Critical Will program, which focuses on the disarmament work of the United Nations in New York City. RCW produced daily updates for the 2000 NPT Review Conference.

In 2005, Stephanie produced the Banning the Bomb TV project, where video interviews were conducted during the day and posted onto the BTB website.

In 2010, back at the NPT Review Conference, Stephanie produced the NukeTweets project. Using an online audio platform, AudioBoo, she conducted over 100 audio interviews and posted them immediately.

Developing media models using the latest tech at the time was part of the goal of her work.
